Historical signals Mattei’s square is one of the most ancient and less known squares of Rome. The name of the square derives from the Duke Mattei who lived during the XVI century. On the intervention of the Duke was built one of the palaces that overlook the square and the splendid fountain known as “the Turtoise” created by Giacomo della Porta with bronze figures by Taddeo Landini placed in the middle of the square.
